Hackathons break down access barriers

  • In February 2022 a three-day Public Interest Sex Tech Hackathon was coordinated. The Hackathon brought together designers, technologists and communities to workshop how sexual technologies can be governed in ways that prioritize public interest benefit.

  • The work adopts a feminist socio-technical perspective which aims to better understand the ways that both individuals and communities interact with sextech platforms and devices.

  • Hackathons challenge participants to be both pragmatic and speculative, while collaborating with strangers in a 3 day Zoom meeting. An opening panel of activists presented their vision of sextech in the public interest. Participants were challenged to design technologies that broke down access barriers for LGBTQ+ people living in remote or regional communities.
